Q: What are wigs made of?

A: Wigs are made of many kinds of fibers - both synthetic and human hair. Today's better quality synthetic wigs (which is all you will find at WigCity) are virtually indistinguishable from human hair, except to the most practiced eye. Synthetic wigs are easier to care for and lower priced. The monofilament fiber "hair" used to make synthetic wigs has "memory" which means it maintains its wave or curl, texture and volume, requiring minimal upkeep. Synthetic wigs, however, are not designed to accept a permanent wave or color change and can be permanently damaged by the use of curling irons, blow dryers or hot rollers.

You can also decide to purchase a human hair wig. A human hair wig is the most natural looking option. It can be cut, styled, permed or colored to suit your personal taste. Human hair wigs are more durable than synthetic wigs. However, human hair wigs are more expensive that synthetic wigs and require more care. You should always refer to the care instructions that come with your particular wig to ensure that it lasts and maintains its integrity.

Q: How much do wigs weigh?
A: The wigs today are very light. Some are 1 to 2 ounces, They are made so that they are airy and have less hair than the ones of the past, which make them light. They can be worn everyday and can be made to look extremely natural.
Q: How do I care for a wig?
A: Wigs are very easy to care for, but you have to maintain them to make sure they last. When not in use, always store your wig on a mannequin or wig stand to maintain its shape. Frequency of cleaning will depend on your environment, lifestyle and amount of perspiration. Suggested guidelines for cleaning are after 10 to 14 days of wear. To clean and condition your wig, follow the manufacturer's instructions that come with your wig.

Synthetic and Blended Wigs
Only shampoos, conditioners, hair sprays and other styling accessories designed specifically for synthetic wigs should be used to take care of synthetic hair or blended (synthetic/human) hair wigs. After shampooing and conditioning, make sure to rinse your wig thoroughly in cool water. Always use a soft towel and carefully blot dry (do not scrub). Allow your wig to dry naturally overnight on a wig stand.

Human Hair Wigs
Special products should also be used on human hair wigs because the hair in human hair wigs has been processed several times and is vulnerable to damage. Any high quality shampoo formulated for processed hair may be used, however, we strongly recommends you use the products made especially for wigs to protect your investment.

Q: How do I know what wig is for me?
A: A wig should be the easiest thing to wear and the most comfortable. When you wear it, it should feel natual. It should fit easy and comfortable and look great.
Q: What color do I get?
A: Your first wig should be the color you see yourself in all the time. Probably your own natural shade. After you are comfortable with your wig in your natural color , then you may want to get daring and buy a different color. Important! Viewing colors over the internet is not exact. Some computer monitors may show colors different depending on the settings of the computer. For an exact match, you may want to consult a color ring - you can contact us directly for more details on how to purchase or find out exactly what color is best for you!
Q: What size wig should I get?

A: The average wigs fit heads from 21.5" to 22.5". Ninety-five percent of our customers fall into this range. To measure your head take a measuring tape and go around your forehead and around the back to the front .  Also measure along the hairline around the head.

Q: How should a wig fit?
A: Your wig should be worn on your natural hairline, approximately four fingers above the eyebrows. The back of the wig should be pulled down to the natural hairline in the back. Wigs have adjustable Velcro and elastic tabs in the back so you can adjust your wig for a secure, comfortable fit. There are also small tabs in the front of the ears that can be adjusted to hold the wig close to the face.
Q: What about style...what is good for me?
A: This is the fun part There are so many styles choose from. You might want to pick a style that is close to your own style. especially if its your first wig. However, you may also want to be creative and pick something that is unlike your own. Don't forget about costume wigs also -They make a great addition to any party outfit!
Q: How long does a wig last?
A: A wig will last you as long as you take care it . Most wigs will last you about a couple of years if you make sure to care for it properly. For the best care, refer to the care instructions included with your particular wig.
